Founded in 2010, Gateway for Kids (GFK) is a Michigan nonprofit agency providing:
- Professional and personal development for minority teens and young
adults.
- Mentoring programs for middle and high school youth in the Greater Detroit Metro area.
- City-wide activities including STOP the Bullying Campaign and the Annual K-12 STEM Day.
GFK is dedicated to the growing need to help our young people be college and/or career ready.
The focus is slightly different at each level from K-12 to young adulthood, but the goal remains the same: empower young people to become happy,
productive community members.
In 2015 GFK expanded our original vision and mission to include STEM awareness and education programs for young people. We believe that STEM fields provde some of the greatest opportunities to
build a great generation.
The GFK mission is guided by the following principles:
- Connection: Inspire pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and instill a sense of hope in the future.
- Responsibilty: Empower youth to establish goals and follow through on commitments.
- Recognizing Potential: Expand the perspective of young people so they can recognize and capitalize on life's possibilities.
- Support: An individual is dramatically influenced by their support system. GFK wants to surround young people with positive peers and professionals in a caring, inclusive
learning environment.
